85% of job success comes from having well‐developed soft and people skills, and only 15% of job success comes from technical skills and knowledge (hard skills)

Research study by Harvard University, Carnegie Foundation and Stanford Research Centre

In a high-IQ job pool, soft skills like discipline, drive and empathy mark those who emerge as outstanding

- Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence Guru & Author

Hard skills will eventually become obsolete. What employers worldwide want are soft skills, including oral communication, team-building, and leadership skills.”

- Jeff Weiner, Executive Chairman of LinkedIn

As the workplace increasingly automates, soft skills are what make the human contribution so irreplaceably unique

- Forbes Global

Why this problem persists?

While soft skills are increasingly becoming the hard skills of today’s workforce, most new employees continue to come to organizations without them and even more alarmingly, go through their entire career without acquiring the critical job skills. Looking deeply at the modern history of most of the successful people in their personal, professional or social spaces, it is quite evident that, it’s just not enough to be highly trained in technical skills without developing the more practical and softer job skills.

The critical job skills to lead self & others, to build symbiotic relationships with people & organizations, and to communicate and collaborate effectively are more vital than ever as organizations struggle to find meaningful ways to remain competitive and be productive. Since job skills are an essential element for organizational and personal success, hence it is quite natural for corporates and educational institutions to focus on increasing the index of soft skills proficiency among the employment ready young citizens. And, logically, their primary focus should have been on how to assess the soft skills levels of their future employees using a real-world diagnostic tool and to develop the softer job skills capacities of their current employees. But what contributes to perpetuating this massive global problem can be attributed to two tragic yet ironical facts.

Tragic Fact #1: Most of the prevalent employability and job assessment tools that are used by employers worldwide are still focussed on testing job-specific technical skills, cognitive skills and at best assessing some personality traits and psychological characteristics.

Tragic Fact #2: Corporates worldwide are spending only 1/4th of their training & development funds for enhancement of the softer job skills as compared to their spending on imparting training on hard/technical skills.
